Richard III was an ambitious production undertaken by Front Foot Theatre. With a cast of 17 trained by me extensively in stage combat, physical theatre, clowning, flying work, and puppetry, our aim was to push the boundaries of physicality, immersing the audience in a dark and intense theatrical experience. Presented in-the-round at The Cockpit Theatre, the production utilised all levels of the theatre space, including scaffold and wire work, to give the audience of fully surrounded experience.
As a deeply physical director and performance coach, I embraced the challenge of leading such a diverse and talented company. I carefully curated the script over some months, casting actors based on their unique skill sets, and collaborated closely with Kim Hardy to compose an original score and sound design.
The production garnered consistent critical acclaim from reviewers and earned Kim Hardy an OFFIE nomination for Best Actor. It was a testament to the dedication and versatility of our team, and I am proud to have spearheaded such a multifaceted endeavour from the director's chair. I consider it to be the one production to this stage that has allowed me to spread my wings and all directions and I am deeply proud of what we achieved.
